I do not believe this as you state it.

I think that society does in fact steal your soul but the creation of society is the creation of freedom from nature. Society does steal your freedom but its part of a dialectic and part of society should be to educate people regarding this dialectic. After listening to John Anderson, ex PM of Australia, I heard him explain that the axe that is used to fell trees to build houses can also be used to kill you, and he was quoting someone else. I'm working on a new video about the concept of freedom and would like to share this early working text part of it:
All the great stories, books in libraries and churches, and even our politic are all about freedom.

Even science is about freedom, to provide relief from mother nature. Science gives us safety and a reduced economic load. For science you need societies, Men that mine steel to make axes that fell the trees that are used to build houses have to be fed and this requires the organization of societies. For societies you need money. For money you need laws to protect the value of that money. These laws must be backed by force. People in uniform with guns exist to protect the value of the money that allows society to function. Money, and therefore society, cannot work unless it is protected from counterfeiters and thieves.

So we create laws to make this organization possible. We use laws to protect ourselves from one another. We also must be protected from society itself. The axes that fell the trees to build our houses can be used to kill us and good laws protect us from these axes. People that take the time to learn a little about law recognize that there must be laws that protect people from the state itself.

The word “freedom” is meaningless and irrelevant outside the bounds of society, but this beast we create must have reins. Christianity is the only political philosophy that provides these reins.

You are correct about the "love of money" which is plenty bad alone. However the economies of just about every nation have been perverted to where there is now a necessity for money. Without a certain amount one cannot live today as self sufficiency is simply outlawed in almost every case.

Electricity makes a good example. Anyone not connected to "the grid," with a monthly payment until death, is automatically considered a criminal who is stealing electricity somehow. I am aware of a North Dakota farmer through whose property a very powerful electric line was forced. The farmer's cows were dying from the excess electricity but he was refused any compensation. However when he stretched his own line underneath the massive power line, touching nothing but absorbing the intruding, health destroying, rays to power his home with this poison, he was arrested for stealing electricity. In other words, he was not a cash cow for the "energy provider."

The utilities are bad enough but the artificial prices set on homes for sale or rent, even rented rooms, now forces people to either grab every dollar they can lay hands upon or "live," if you can call it that, on the street.

The original meaning of the word "economy" meant the maintenance of the family, it had nothing to do with commercial profit and loss much less money.

When we attempt to analyze what is holy and what is divine we are then outside of the word trying to find a carnal interpretation of the divine that always falls short.
Holiness is obedience to God and the commands of Jesus Christ. Without obedience knowledge is in vain.
Scriptural truth is like a multi faceted diamond. Every time we read it we learn something new. We can never say we have found the all the answers because truth is infinite and eternal.

Jesus tell us in Luke 17:21 that the kingdom of heaven is within us. The article here points out very well that searching for happiness and contentment outside of ourselves leads to a life of discontentment because the fleshly cures of the world are only temporal ones that have to constantly be feed and at the same time leading us further away from the spirit.

In case there is any confusion though, the point of the Easter Story is *not* some vague esoteric pop-philosophy new-age metaphor for "freeing yourself from material goods" or "being the best version of yourself" or "looking inside yourself to find the divine spark inside that brings the most happiness" or any such flowery advice. While yes, there may be some side lessons to learn from the Easter story, it would be a betrayal to not recognize the entire *point* of it;

That we have estranged ourselves from God through our choices, the wrong things that we thought, that we did, that we failed to do - what the Bible calls sin. We all missed the mark of God's glory, and are left condemned and in the grip of death and hell. But God in his love for us, chose to do something about it. He would send a Savior, the only possible Savior, that could bring us back into perfect union with God - someone who was God himself.

John3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus lived as one of us, in the grit and grime, suffered what we suffered as humans, and suffered even further on the cross. He took on himself the debt we owe, paying it in full.

Jesus lived, died, was buried, and rose again, conquering death and hell, offering us the free gift of eternal life and reunion with God. Not probationary life, not temporary life, but eternal life. And like all real gifts, this one is paid for completely by the giver, it doesn't come by our money or works or deeds or ritual-keeping, not by any of our "righteousness" at all - but it's for all who will simply put their faith in Christ alone, what HE has done, to save them.

Super article today Henry. You nailed it when you said that "we can't feel good unless we are good". That's why I strive to be the best person I can be everyday. I look for good deeds to do, and I feel fantastic. If you feel down or depressed, go for walks to pick up garbage. It's amazingly therapeutic if done on a regular basis. Or at it was for me. It helped me become the happiest person I know.

goes to the core meaning of "kufr" in correct Islamic belief, as I understand it. It is to know spiritual truth, but then to hide it, cover it, flout it, etc. The one doing the act is a "kafir". Like lying, it is thus an intentional act, the actor knowing fully well what is true, yet gain saying it. This is not to be confused with "not being Muslim."

This also gets to the core message of the Gospel (again, as I understand it), which is Jesus's (pbuh) condemnation of the religious authority of the day, the Pharisees.

Really enjoyed your latest article. I have always been 'happy' in my life because I knew there was a God. I still have external desires such as wanting a nice girlfriend, house, car etc, but it doesn't take centre stage in my life and therefore I believe it never got me to the point where I was empty and started abusing drugs/alcohol like those celebrities do. I believe that just knowing for oneself there is a the one and only Creator will move one in the right direction.

I think Ekhart Tolle is a new age philosopher and may have dangerous ideas too. I read through a bunch of his quotes posted online. To illustrate my point I take one "The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it."

This is flat out wrong - the source of unhappiness is really sin. When we are made unhappy its because we broke a law, or someone else broke a law against us. Wrapping a new car around a tree is not going to make someone truly unhappy, its just going to piss them off for a while. Have some one steal a dollar from you - that would bother you more, especially if it was a friend its not going to ruin you, rather, it would just be a pit in your stomach. God is about law and every source of happiness or unhappiness is about law.

He got an interview on Oprah, the leading new age philosopher !

I agree with your basic explanation of sin and how Satan keeps people running in the hampster cage always wanting and pursuing.

My perspective on Eckart Tolle, though, is that he is a new age teacher able to explain spiritual things but in a way that is at odds with the teachings of Christ. I don't see any way one could harmonize the two messages, and it's not that hard to see since he has books and videos in which he redefines important words If one believes he can draw near to God by self effort, then Tolle's teachings are as good as others in his class. My understanding of Jesus' teaching, however, is that one cannot reconcile himself to God by his own efforts. It is an act of God himself akin to adoption, rebirth.

So where Tolle may provide some relief from the normal way we learn to live our lives, that relief is not the same as the salvation Jesus taught. I think the main question in life is "what must I do to gain eternal life?"

I don't understand why Christians are so down on Tolle when he cites Christ all the time. As far as I'm concerned he experienced the rebirth and grace you are talking about, and is trying to help others do the same.

Claiming that humanity has the role of being their servants, implies that they are fully in control and masters of it. they are only servants of Satan (who has no human friends). Satan himself has no peace either and is gathering his armies as his time get shorter.

The only way to become free is to accept God's plan of salvation and His Son. It is by His power at the end and not by our own.

"New Age" religion tells us that we can get to Heaven and have a relationship with God without Jesus Christ. Wrong!

Blood is the only atonement for sin that God accepts, like it or not.

It was only through the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed at Calvary can man be forgiven and given eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. We are all sinners are not capable of redeeming ourselves without him. Our blood is corrupt and therefore could not be accepted as a "sin offering" to God.

"New Age" religion is this new mentality of a "privatized God" that we create in our own personal imagination that no one or anybody else can take away.

Also, there seems to be a "new theology" of separating Jesus Christ from the Holy Father of the Old Testament. Wrong! Jesus Christ referenced the Book of Deuteronomy many times himself.

Jesus Christ never disputed the content of the Old Testament but did refute the misinterpretation of it.
