WHO downgrades COVID pandemic, says it's no longer emergency

The World Health Organization said Friday that COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a global emergency, marking a symbolic end to the devastating coronavirus pandemic that triggered once-unthinkable lockdowns, upended economies worldwide and killed at least 7 million people worldwide.

WHO said that even though the emergency phase was over, the pandemic hasn't come to an end, noting recent spikes in cases in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The UN health agency says that thousands of people are still dying from the virus every week.

“It’s with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as a global health emergency,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

“That does not mean COVID-19 is over as a global health threat,” he said, adding he wouldn't hesitate to reconvene experts to reassess the situation should COVID-19 “put our world in peril.”

Tedros said the pandemic had been on a downward trend for more than a year, acknowledging that most countries have already returned to life before COVID-19. He bemoaned the damage that COVID-19 had done to the global community, saying the virus had shattered businesses and plunged millions into poverty.

“COVID has changed our world and it has changed us,” he said, warning that the risk of new variants still remained.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has come forward with shocking allegations of alleged sex trafficking crimes involving Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. In an interview with Benny Johnson, Greene stated that she has “staggering” evidence of the alleged crimes in Hunter Biden’s bank records.

According to Greene, the evidence she has seen includes SARS reports and bank statements that allegedly show the exchange of money between Hunter Biden and known prostitutes.

She went on to say that many of the women involved are from Russia and Ukraine, and that there are serious concerns that they may have been held in sex slavery.

“This is true human sex trafficking of people that are not even citizens. And the question is, were they being held in some sort of sex slavery?” Greene said in the interview. “These are the crimes that the FBI and the Department of Justice should be investigating and prosecuting with Hunter Biden because the evidence is all there and the women are easily accessible and you can talk to them and call them in as witnesses.”

Greene also expressed her disgust at Hunter Biden’s alleged actions, calling him a “purely disgusting, vile human being” and stating that his alleged crimes are an embarrassment to the nation.

State will not do business with banks ‘beholden to social goals that override their fiduciary duties,’ Oklahoma state treasurer says

Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ is planning to announce the sweeping measure Wednesday morning which represents one of the most aggressive actions any state has taken against banks pursuing so called environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. The move ultimately blocks the banks from managing billions of dollars in Oklahoma pensions, investments and other state entities.

“The energy sector is crucial to Oklahoma’s economy, providing jobs for our residents and helping drive economic growth,” Russ said in a statement. “It is essential for us to work with financial institutions that are focused on free-market principles and not beholden to social goals that override their fiduciary duties.”

The ban impacts some of the largest asset managers and banks in the country including BlackRock, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and State Street. BlackRock alone reported in April that it has a staggering $9.1 trillion in assets under management.
