The announcements of US hypersonic development failures is for something completely different than what the Russians have. Putin's hypersonic missile is no more than an air launched ballistic missile. We did that many years ago and found it wasn't a very good way to do things. The US is trying to develop a hypersonic cruise missile and has serious problems with the scramjets required to make it work. Russia does not have a hypersonic cruise missile, nor anything approaching it.
