I just finished reading your article on rense.com titled "Is the Pope a Catholic? and wished to thank you for writing it. In your article you referenced the 1976 Mason's list which has various Vatican officials listed and I want to pass along some additional information which you may find interesting.

When Karol Jozef Wojtyla took over the papacy as Pope John Paul II on October 16, 1978, the defining vote cast for him (as reported in Newsweek) was by a Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio. Baggio's name appears on that Mason's list. Furthermore, the Cardinal (Jean Villot) who asked Wojtyla if he accepted the position was *also* on that Masonic List.

Baggio, Sebastiano. Cardinal. Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Bishops. (This is a crucial Congregation since it appoints new Bishops.) Secretary of State under Pope John Paul II from 1989 to 1992. 8-14-57; # 85-1640. Masonic code name "SEBA." He controls consecration of Bishops. At 6:18 p.m. on the day he is elected Pope, a Cardinal Tisserant announces in the chapel that Karol Wojtyla of Krakow had been elected pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. Cardinal Jean Villot, the chamberlain, approached Wojtyla and asked in Latin: "In accordance with the canon law, do you accept?" So there you have it. Pope John Paul II - voted in by a Freemason (Baggio) and handed the keys to the Roman Catholic Church by a Freemason (Villot).

Cardinal Jean Villot served as Secretary of State under Pope Paul VI. According to the "Mason List" he was a Mason Camerlengo (Treasurer). with Masonic code names: "JEANNI," and "ZURIGO."

When another Masonic member, Cardinal Pasquale Macchi (4-23-58; # 5463-2. "MAPA."), Pope Paul VI's Prelate of Honour and Private Secretary was excommunicated for heresy by Pope Paul VI it was Masonic brother and Secretary of State Jean Villot who later reinstated him. In 1979, when the newly installed John Paul II undertook the first of many overseas trips, he handed the then Secretary of State, Cardinal Jean Villot, powers to grant indulgences and to make diocesan appointments.

As you may know, in 1738, Pope Clement XII wrote in condemnation of Freemasonry that "all prudent and upright men have passed the same judgment upon them as being depraved and perverted. For if they were not doing evil they would not have so great a hatred of the light."

Freemasons faced excommunication from the Catholic Church *until* Pope John Paul II (who as we see above owes his papacy to a freemason) changed the Canon Law in 1983. In the spirit of church reform (Vatican II) he made allowances for Catholic Freemasons but prohibited them from receiving the Holy Eucharist because their beliefs were still deemed a mortal sin. (Source: "Easing the Rule of Law, Time Magazine, Feb. 7, 1983). But they were still allowed to influence Catholic doctrine from within its ranks.

Their masonic efforts were most certainly best exemplified by the late Cardinal Annabale Bugnini, a former secretary of the Congregation of the Divine Cult, a Vatican department involved in the verification of miracles. In the 1960s, Bugnini was secretary of the "Consilium," a group set up to implement the reform of the liturgy after Vatican II, as well as secretary of all the principal bodies set up before, during and after the council to oversee the Church's renewal.

Bugnini was discovered by Pope Paul VI to be a mason when his name appeared on the Masonic List as follows:

Name: Bugnini, Annabale, Wrote Novus Ordo Mass. Envoy to Iran, Initiated as a Mason:4-23-63; Mason Code Number: 1365-75. Masonic Name: "BUAN."

Bugnini, under pre-1983 Canon Law, should have been excommunicated but instead he was merely "exiled" to Iran where he served for many years as the Vatican's official representative. In fact, he even negotiated on Pope John Paul II's behalf during the 1979/1980 Iranian hostage crisis. So JPII obviously knew of Bugnini's masonic affiliations but didn't care enough to excommunicate him even before the Canon Law was changed.
