Psychedelics - Masonic Attack on Christianity?

December 2, 2011

"The ultimate goal of the powers-that-be in terms of psychedelic research may be to create a type of "spirituality" where even mystical experiences that are valid on a certain level will serve to establish their control. They want to own everything--even mysticism, even spiritual aspiration, even God."

Editor's Note: Charles Upton is a poet, author, and activist who has published numerous books on Sufism, Metaphysics, and other topics. In this letter, he argues that the psychedelic revolution was initiated, in part, by Freemasonry to undermine authentic religious and mystical experience. If this is true, I think it backfired because it has been the gateway to spiritual truth for many of my generation. However, based on his own experience, Upton believes that the damage wrought by psychedelics, outweighs the benefits.

Assuming that you are not already aware of the relationship between Freemasonry and both psychedelic research and MK-ULTRA, (CIA mind control research)  I talked with a physician acquaintance of mine who had participated in the second round of psilocybin experiments within academia in the 1990's; I hadn't realized they had started up again that early.

He investigated the source of the funding for the experiment he'd been part of at the University of New Mexico, and discovered that the money for the DMT research that led up to the experiments he had been involved in had been provided by the Scottish Rite Foundation for Schizophrenia Research--the Freemasons!*

In view of the fact that many traditional Catholics see the Second Vatican Council as a kind of Masonic coup within the Catholic Church, the apparent "coincidence" that psychedelic drugs became available to the masses at exactly the same time that traditional Roman Catholicism was being destroyed may in fact be much more than that.

As René Guénon pointed out, though cyclical conditions may make the growth of the Counter-Initiation possible, the concrete manifestations of this counterfeit, Luciferian spirituality can only be brought about by actual human groups. Dr. Rama P. Coomaraswamy [1929-2006] in his essay "The Problem of Obedience", unpublished in hard copy but available on the web, recounts the following:

....a leading Freemason, Yves Marsoudon (State Master, Supreme Council of France, Scottish Rite) tells us: "The sense of universalism that is rampant in Rome these days is very close to our purpose of existence....With all our hearts we support the 'Revolution of John XXIII'...."

Not satisfied with this, Yves Marsoudon dedicated his book Ecumenism as Seen by a Traditionalist Freemason to the Pope in the following words: "To the Memory of Angelo Roncalli, Priest, Archbishop of Messembria, Apostolic Nuncio in Paris, Cardinal of the Roman Church, Patriarch of Venice, POPE under the name of John XIII, WHO HAS DEIGNED TO GIVE US HIS BENEDICTION, HIS UNDERSTANDING AND HIS PROTECTION."

[Note by Samuel Bendeck Sotillos] *A grant from a branch of the Masons, the Scottish Rite Foundation for Schizophrenia Research helped establish the merit of my study a year before I actually began it. Why the Masons had an interest in schizophrenia in general, and DMT in particular, I do not know, but I believe that garnering such support enhanced the esteem of my study in the eyes of the relevant regulatory and funding agencies." [Rick Strassman, "DMT: The Brain's Own Psychedelic" in Rick Strassman, Slawer Wojtowicz, Luis Eduardo Luna and Ede Frecska, Inner Paths to Outer Space: Journeys to Alien Worlds through Psychedelics and Other Spiritual Technologies (Rochester, VT: Park Street Press, 2008), p. 48].

"Curiously, another MKULTRA faction consisted of representatives of the Scottish Rite of Masonry, which had sponsored research into eugenics, psychiatry, and mind control since at least the 1930s.

MKULTRA doctor Robert Hanna Felix [1904-1990] was director of psychiatric research for the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and the director of the National Institute of Mental Health. Felix was the immediate senior of Dr. Harris Isbell, already noted in relation to MKULTRA.

Another prominent Freemason involved in MK-ULTRA was Dr. Paul Hoch [1902-1964], financed by the Army Chemical Center." The title of my upcoming book is Vectors of the Counter-Initiation: The Shape and Destiny of Inverted Spirituality. In it I hope to show, 1) that the globalist powers-that-be are attempting to deconstruct not only Christianity but all the traditional religions, and, 2) that there is a true, orthodox esoterism or esoteric spirituality which, when it becomes perverted and goes over to the "dark side", results in the greatest spiritual evil the human race is capable of, what French philosopher and meta-physician Rene Guenon called the "Counter-Initiation".

Upton Adds: But I also want to say something about my generation's experience of psychedelics (I'm soon to be 63, Baby Boom). I took LSD 3 times, magic mushrooms twice, mescaline and peyote innumerable times, nitrous oxide several times (in and out of the dentist's chair), had one powerful trip on morning glory seeds, and smoked copious quantities of dope. I certainly can't say that I never learned anything, but I was also damaged in some subtle way. We hippies used to say, "SURE we were a CIA experiment, man -- an experiment that GOT OUT OF CONTROL (hee-hee-hee)." I heard the exact same thing from Prof. Huston Smith, who was a close friend. But after going on 24- years on the Sufi path, I finally got to the point where I could see how psychedelics had blocked my further spiritual progress. They open you up on one level, but block you on another, and that other level is very hard to see.

The CIA wanted to use psychedelics to "confuse and terrify" people but they also apparently hoped that these substances could help their own agents gain magic powers: telepathy, remote viewing, etc. And they were entirely willing to confuse and delight people if that would serve their ends. The hippy myth that the CIA were a bunch of uptight straight people who "couldn't hold their acid" and saw it only as a crazy-making pill needs to be permanently debunked. The  Bohemian/magician/secret agent is a well-known type; both occultist John Dee (the original 007) and Satanist Aleister Crowley worked for British Intelligence. The ultimate goal of the powers-that-be in terms of psychedelic research may be to create a type of "spirituality" where even mystical experiences that are valid on a certain level will serve to establish their control. They want to own everything--even mysticism, even spiritual aspiration, even God.

The above is an excerpt from a book Charles Upton  wrote which will probably be published next year. It is the concluding section of an interview conducted by Samuel Bendeck Sotillos about "drug-induced musticism" (so-called).  The interview will soon appear separately in Psychology and the Perennial Philosophy: Studies in Comparative Religion

Charles Upton's other books (including The System of Antichrist: Truth and Falsehood in Postmodernism and the New Age, which Vectors of the Counter-Initiation will be a sequel to) can be purchased through Amazon.com or at www.sophiaperennis.com

I think Charles Upton's book topic is right on the money. Five years ago I would have accepted part of it, but dismissed his idea that the unleashing of LSD on Western youth had any planned or strategic connection with the timing of Vatican II Fifteen years ago I would have dismissed him entirely as a religious fanatic who didn't 'get it'.

The nuances are subtle. Vatican II wasn't just a blow to a denomination, it swept away with the last vestiges of "Christendom" - that is, the 'old order' that the new Masonic one has replaced. A decade earlier Arnold J. Toynbee, British Historian connected with the Foreign Office and Chatham House
said the decline of the West could only be reversed by a return to some form of Catholicism could halt the breakdown of western civilization which began with the Reformation. Toynbee wasn't a Catholic, he was speaking as a historian. For example, the belief that Pharaohs were gods was central to their civilization. Spengler and Quigley agree that civilizations have each ridden on their religious paradigm. The way of life, the mores and morals derive from the cosmology. If you want to destroy a culture simply mock it's theocracy.

There is some truth in what he says, psychedelics can kill political awareness through absorption in the internal reality and there is no doubt LSD was given to Leary and co by the CIA, but Leary spent 4 1/2 years in jail which doesn't exactly give support to Upton's thesis. I don't know why Leary became attached to Crowley's writings but we all have our blindspots.

John Lilly may have been working for the government at one time but there is no doubt he changed camps through the use of psychedelics. Upton's psychedelics experience: "LSD 3 times, magic mushrooms twice, mescaline and peyote innumerable times, nitrous oxide several times (in and out of the dentist's chair), had one powerful trip on morning glory seeds, and smoked copious quantities of dope," is absolutley nothing. Mushrooms are totally different to LSD and Ketamine. I just read Leary cut the prison recedivism rate from 70% to 10% using Psilocybin btw.

For example, John Lilly must have had well over 500 LSD trips (maybe 1,000), and they would have been the maximum, 400 mcg. I know someone who had 700. Lilly also had about 20,000 Ketamin trips I worked out (I had 5,000 or so), and Ketamine used properly is way more powerful than LSD.

And don't forget Lilly did most of his tripping in an isolation tank! He also went on a workshop with a big Sufu (I think) guru, Oscar Ichazo, who founded Arica. Ichazo was using LSD there but you won't ever read anything about that.

In my own experience, I can say, as Don Juan said and John Lilly showed me, 'all Paths lead nowhere', so all that mystical talk about psychedlics blocking Upton's Path is just his experience. As Lilly said, 'whatever you believe to be true is true...'. One day, maybe not this lifetime, he will find out his Path isn't going anywhere. Spiritual people tend to think we are special and our Path is going somewhere, but it isn't.

Also there is a huge difference taking psychedelics with a shaman (or someone with past life shamanic knowledge), and taking it by yourself. You can take Ketamin for years and go nowhere much but take it with the likes of John Lilly and the sparks will fly out of your ass.

Having said all that I wouldn't advise anyone to take psychedelics, as the climate isn't conducive. They killed all the people with shamanic knowledge (in Russia they put 40 into a church as set it on fire, 3 still managed to walk out) over the centuries in the west and the rest keep well hidden. While they put Strychnine into LSD tp stop people using it, which tells a story doesn't it. I know someone who ended up in hospital when all their muscles froze due to strychnine.

Psychedelic use is what Gurdjieff called the fourth way, and that way has been suppressed as I said, which is a pretty good indication it is the most powerful Path. Even the Sufi lot will denigrate it, which is a joke considering Gurdjieff was on that path.

using them allowed me to not spend my life running around seeking and wasting time on a path that wasn't going anywhere. But it great fun to think you are going somewhere, unless you have better things to do.

Steve Jobs said that taking LSD was one of the most important experiences of his life. Bill Gates reportedly never took acid. Hence the difference between using a Mac and using Windows.

Dan said (December 3, 2011):

Flooding American schools and suburbs with LSD didn't 'backfire'. It achieved every objective exactly as planned.

They - CIA 'change agents' like Leary - promised us it was a shortcut to 'enlightenment'.

Jeff said (December 2, 2011):

Charles Upton is quite correct that the damage wrought by psychedelics outweighs any benefits they have brought. An entire generation has bought the lie that there are many truths out there and that no idea or opinion is better than any other. It has also bought the vicious lie that life has no meaning and there are no consequences to sin, indeed that there is no sin, but only differences of subjective experiences and perception. Many will discover this only after it is too late to their spiritual destruction.

Marcio said (December 2, 2011):

People need spirituality. When they quit the real one, they get into the wrong ones.
Exotic religions, weird meditation methods, strange therapies, Freudian psychotherapy, drugs: new (luciferian) age!

No surprise Pope John XXIII was cumplimented by freemasons: he was the one who opened the Church to freemasonry (as a crypto freemason himself), ecumenism and the new-age like spirituality, thus undermining the traditional(ist) Catholic Church and bringing apostasy to the Western World - after all, you can believe in anything you want but in the Church. Nowadays, a catholic is either traditionalist or a new age follower since "modern" Catholicism is a dead end: it has become a frivolous tea club with no spiritual content. The clergy became Christ's traitors and whores, thus dragging lots of people down to their doom and damnation (in this life and after it).

One must get back to the sources as the creek is polluted downstream...

The Catholic Church used to be one of the foundations of the western culture. It brought the West the basis of Law, Philosophy, Natural Sciences, Ethics, Arts, etc. Amazingly, this has not been taught at schools, which makes people think Sciences were created by modern scientists while they had flourished to their peak in the 12th century in Catholic universities, abbeys and monasteries - with the cumpliments of serious scientists such as Alexander Von Humboldt (19th century)!

Once it rots, it tears down the whole building.

That is why new age satanists, hippies and freemasons are all against the Church and for Satan.
I smell a rat whenever there is criticism against the Church.

The closer to weird spirituality (many of which were anathemized by the Church as heresies before), the closer to satanism.
